Queen of the Flies

Back to THEATRE

The luxury gay cruise ship Poseidon's Paradise capsizes in the North Sea. Seven drag queens, a captain, and a writer wash up on an uninhabited island. What begins as a wet dream filled with glitter and wigs descends into a battle for power and recognition: survival of the prettiest.
Camping Sunset presents a campy adaptation of William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. Conflicting group dynamics surface—such as the urge for togetherness, the fear of exclusion, the quest for individual self-expression, and the distribution of power. What happens when these questions are detached from stereotypes of masculinity and explored by a group for whom gender is a broad, fluid spectrum? For this production, Camping Sunset collaborates with a diverse group of drag performers. True to the Sunset identity, the show is created in just two weeks of rehearsals. Over the subsequent ten performance days, the cast continues to explore the essence of the artistic material in front of an audience. Loosely inspired by: Lord of the Flies (1954) by William Golding, Humankind (2019) by Rutger Bregman, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Expeditie Robinson, Echte Meisjes In De Jungle, Million Dollar Island, Ex On The Beach… Possible disclaimers: flashing lights, use of smoke machine, potential nudity, alcohol consumption, explicit language.
